<p>If you have tried unsuccessfully to find ways to lose weight that will work for you on a permanent basis and you have also tried to get fit using every new fangled diet and fitness program with the same result, you have a friend in me. Until a few years ago I had gained and lost weight more often than I would like to remember.  I was in need of a real solution to my yo-yoing body shape and my low level of fitness.</p>
<p>You may commit yourself to diets and get-fit-quick plans like I did only to be disappointed.  Your body shape may balloon and shrink depending on whether you are on an up or down&#8217; in your health cycle.  If you have not been able to lose that extra fat for good and feel full of energy you need a new answer. </p>
<p>The thing about weight gain is that it happens gradually, without us feeling it or even realizing it.  Before we know it, we have become over weight or even obese and lack the energy we need.  To reclaim our healthy body, lose our extra flab and keep weight off, we need to alter the daily behavior that caused this in the first place.</p>
<p>How do we start to identify these ways to lose weight?  Slowly, just as we gained this weight, by making small, healthy changes over time.  Some are related to the nutrition in our diet, others to our exercise and lifestyle.  </p>
<p>Look at the way you live and identify some small ways to tweak your present eating habits and exercise behaviors.  Avoid dramatic changes that will see you tire of your diet or your exercise regime so that you throw in the towel.  Make a start on ways to lose weight by changing some of the foods that you like to eat but that you know make you fat and replace these with lower calorie products.</p>
<p>To avoid obesity and maintain the right body fat, balance the amount and type of food you eat with your daily exercise.  It is not a case of Once past the Lips Forever on the Hips. Rather it is Once past the Lips without Exercise will see this happen. </p>
<p>Begin an exercise routine and discover that taking a regular early morning swim or walk can be one of many ways to lose weight. <p>My mother-in-law wants her son fitter not fatter.  That is why she is happy to see LESS of him these days.  She heard that he has discovered body type exercises that are a prefect match for him and she is thrilled with the result. </p>
<p>This is the mom who has always harbored the hope that we would live next door and has never grown accustomed to the fact that her son moved interstate. She loves him deeply and has found it hard to let him go. So why is she satisfied to see &#8216;less&#8217; of him now?</p>
<p>It is because her own health has taken a turn for the worse over recent years. She wants her son to make sure that he does not follow the same direction as she has without knowing about the value of tailored body type exercises. She didn&#8217;t watch her diet, was overweight for many years and sadly, has developed high cholesterol as well as Type 2 Diabetes and suffered a stroke recently. </p>

<p>Today I had my regular cut and color at a new hair salon. My new stylist was Amy and we enjoyed an interesting first chat as she made me look years younger! It wasn&#8217;t long before our conversation focused on the benefits of every day exercise in our lives.</p>
<p>We discovered that we were both interested in weight loss through a healthy diet and exercise.  We discussed our individual approaches and took note of each others&#8217; successes.</p>
<p>Amy is overweight and she needs to lose around 20 pounds.  As a mom with two teenage kids she has a busy schedule.  She says that her first goal was to set and maintain a regular every day exercise routine.  </p>
<p>Amy works long hours but she is so committed to her better health that she has negotiated different start and finish times at her work place.  This means that she can workout on her every day exercise routines daily. She has come to enjoy these over recent weeks and would not miss.</p>
<p>The most interesting aspect of our discussion was the portable heart rate monitor that Amy wears when she exercises.  She tells me that they are not expensive so I have decided to get one to measure when my heart-rate gets to 1.3 its regular rate. I know that I need to include this level of cardiac fitness in my fitness program.</p>
<p>To develop a normal heart rate of 70 beats per minute, you need to increase this to around 90-100 beats per minute.   This elevates your heart rate sufficiently to increase you are your cardio- vascular fitness and helps you lose weight. Both of us were aiming for this as part of our every day exercise.</p>
<p>Amy says that she is keeping her program running regularly despite her full lifestyle because she is staying motivated.  One of the keys to this for Amy is her &#8216;Fitness Friend&#8217; who exercises with her. They both enjoy progress rewards as they reach goals along the path of their every day exercise and have a group of family and friends who actively support them. </p>
<p>To stay committed despite her busy schedule, Amy records all aspects of her improving body shape and form, the result of her every day exercise.  This includes her weight loss as well as the improvements to her body shape around her stomach, hips and chest.  Even when her weight loss slows, her body keeps changing and she has these details to prove it and spur her on.</p>
<p>The danger with charting is that some people do it too frequently and become discouraged when they do not make sufficient gains.  Another danger is that some people chart at the wrong time.  Always measure your weight at the same time each morning not in the afternoon or evening when there is greater fluid retention or when you have been eating.  </p>
<p>So now, like busy Amy, I am using different instruments to objectively monitor the impact of my exercise. I  regularly chart of all aspects of my progress, include suitable rewards for each goal I reach and I have others in my life who my encourage my every day exercise while I move  towards a healthier body and happier life.</p>

<p>1. Smaller meals –<br />
• Eat six small meals instead of three large ones. By satisfying your hunger pangs before they overwhelm you, you can defeat hunger before it takes over.</p>
<p>2. Eat your favorites first –<br />
• Eat what you enjoy. When fixing your plate try selecting only two or three of your favorite things. Just because there’s plenty of options doesn’t mean you have to eat all of them. At restaurants appetizer samplers as an entrée and doggie bags can help you accomplish this in a pinch. Eating for excellent health now does not mean you have to sacrifice your taste buds.</p>
<p>3. Roughage –<br />
•Roughage is otherwise known as greens. Romaine, leafy green, arugala, spinach, and kale have excellent nutritional value and flavor. Iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value and does no more then add calories to your waist line. Roughage also helps detour your sweet tooth before it annihilates that three tier strawberry shortcake, so eat your salad last, not first.</p>
<p>4. Visible snacks –<br />
•Being lazy is good for something. Think I’m kidding? Studies have suggested that if a healthy snack is readily available, meaning within arms length, the average person will munch on that instead of sweets in the break room. So be lazy! Keep healthy snacks within eye sight and arms length.</p>
<p>5. Snack bags –<br />
• When was the last time you snacked on two bags of Cheese Doodles? One snack bag feels like a snack but two is heading towards a binge. This is one thing that most of us can restrain ourselves from doing. Pack a few small snack bags (sandwich bags work great!) with healthy treats and keep them near at hand.</p>
<p>6. Combine snacks –<br />
• The healthiest snacks are usually those that combine food groups. Think trail mix. Nutritional value, flavor, and variety. Can’t get better then that! Try some of these delicious pairings!<br />
a. Apples and peanut butter<br />
b. Organic crackers and hummus (a personal favorite!)<br />
c. Graham crackers and peanut butter<br />
d. Yogurt and dried fruit<br />
e. Cheese and fruit</p>
<p>Eating for excellent health now is more then just limiting the sugar and fat intake, although that certainly helps, it’s about being reasonable and understanding what it is you are putting into your body. Most diets don’t work. Why? Most people don’t like sacrificing their favorites or weighing everything just to lose a pound a week. That doesn’t mean you can’t be healthier though. Being healthy requires a habit change, and just like biting your nails, it can be hard to beat. But eating sensible is much easier then eating less!</p>

<p>The 5 Factor weight loss diet was made by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak for celebrities that need to loose weight fast and get in shape without getting hungry and weak.  The diet is based on the number 5. For five weeks you eat five meals a day and do five workout sessions a week with five exercises each. </p>
<p>Harley Pasternak wrote the book 5 Factor Fitness in 2004. The book 5 Factor Diet was published in 2007; it is an expanded version of the dietary portion of the 5 Factor Fitness book. This is not just another Hollywood diet gimmick, this is a nutritious, balanced diet that includes all the recommended food groups, it helps people get control of their appetites and lose pounds.</p>
<p>If you want to lose 10 pounds or lose 20 pounds this is a good diet because it emphases nutrition and not getting hungry. The best part is it works; it can help you change the eating behaviors that caused you to gain the weight in the first place. </p>
<p>Each meal has no more than five ingredients and takes no more than five minutes to prepare. Each of the 5 daily meals is low in fat and calories and a proper mix of lean protein like chicken, fish, or low-fat dairy. Each meal also has fruits and vegetables, whole grain fiber, monounsaturated fats and water or other sugar-free fluids, all in proper proportions. All refined flour and added sugar is banned.</p>
<p>All of the carbohydrates must have a low rank on the glycemic index scale.  Lower glycemic carbohydrates will give you a more stable blood sugar level. The Glycemic index is a measure of the effects of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels. High GI carbohydrates break down rapidly during digestion and cause your body to release glucose rapidly into your bloodstream; carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI.</p>
<p>Drinking water before a meal helps you fill full so you will eat less food.  Fiber is a part of each meal.  The insoluble fiber will wash out of your system and take some of the fat from the meal with it.  </p>
<p>It is important not to skip meals, this causes the body to store fat instead of burn it.  Skipping meals tells the body to keep the fat.  Eating 5 times a day, increases the metabolism so you lose fat.  The 5 Factor diet has one day a week when can eat favorite foods that you have eliminated from your diet.  </p>
<p>You are not left on your own with just a book, the website is useful and informative; it is loaded with meal plans, menus, eating and exercise plans, journals, and much more. The exercise portion of the 5 Factor diet includes activity five days a week for twenty-five minutes a day.</p>
